Kalvin Phillips is officially a Manchester City player. The England international has put pen to paper on a contract until 2028.

Phillips departs Elland Road after serving 12 years in the ranks. He made his name in the academy, and won promotion with them in 2020. Termed the “Yorkshire Pirlo”, the Leeds faithful admired his skill and poise which was reminiscent of the Italian legend.

He joins Man City after Fernandinho who left on a free transfer at the end of the previous season. Phillips will fill the hole left by the Brazilian in midfield, competing with Rodri for minutes. He will don the number 4 jersey, which previously belonged to captain Vincent Kompany.

Phillips was understandably buzzing after the move. He expressed his excitement to play under Pep Guardiola.

I am absolutely delighted to have joined Manchester City. City have again proved to be the best team in the country with an amazing squad and a manager in Pep Guardiola who is rightly considered to be the finest in the world.

To be able to play under Pep and learn from him and his coaching staff as well as be part of a such a fantastic squad. City are a world-class Club with world-class staff and facilities.

Phillips Time at Leeds

Despite enduring a difficult 2021–22 season due to injuries, Phillips leaves Leeds with 232 appearances. He has 13 goals and 13 assists across all competitions to his name.

Even after making 20 Premier League appearances and playing the full 90 minutes in each of their final six games, the midfielder still managed one assist to help Jesse Marsch’s team secure survival on the final day.

Marc Roca from Bayern Munich has already been signed by Leeds as a replacement for Phillips.
