According to 90min, West Ham United are interested in signing Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-contract old’s at Turf Moor expires after the 2021-22 season. And he will be available for free at that point, with Newcastle United also keen. When Tarkowski becomes a free agent in June. David Moyes hopes to bring him to the London Stadium permanently. But he will face heavy competition from several clubs.

West Ham could use a player like the Burnley midfielder this month. But it appears that he has been priced out of the market. And the Hammers are now happy to wait until the summer.

In November 2020, Clarets manager Sean Dyche hailed the two-cap England international a “great player,” and he has continued to give his all for the club.

How important would James Tarkowski improve West Ham?

While nothing is certain about Tarkowski’s future with the club at this time. He appears to be ready to go after six seasons.

The Irons will be eagerly awaiting his arrival, and the rivalry for his services will be fierce.

While Angelo Ogbonna is expected to return next season. Moyes may opt to keep Tarkowski and Kurt Zouma as his first-choice centre-back pairing if a transfer is successful.

Given the skill of the trio, the West Ham manager may opt for a back-three. Which will undoubtedly strengthen their defence.

Given how rapidly things can change in sports. There is still a long way to go until the end of the season, and all eyes will be on the Englishman.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are chasing Chelsea outcast Malang Sarr to compensate for the injuries to Zouma and Ogbonna. Moyes feels the Frenchman has what it takes to help West Ham improve their defensive performance in the second half of the season. Though it remains to be seen whether the Blues would prefer to work with direct competition for the top four slots.

Burnley, on the other hand, is already planning for life without Tarkowski next season. They are one of the clubs interested in signing Manchester United defender Phil Jones. Ehile Sean Dyche had Mason Holgate on his radar earlier this month.
