Jurgen Klopp accepts that Liverpool were lucky as Ibrahima Konate was not shown a second yellow card. Klopp revealed his views on Konate commiting second foul in the post-match conference after the game with Everton. Though, Liverpool emerged victorious in 2-0 Merseyside derby. However, the Frenchman controversially escaped a second yellow during the game. Mo Salah thereafter scord two goals to lead his side to acquire three points from the game. Besides this, Everton player Ashley Young was sent off in the first half of the game owing to his two yellow cards.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Jurgen Klopp said,
“The red card for Everton obviously changed the game and we didn’t use it immediately to our advantage.
“When we are flying, we win football games and when we are not, we still have to win.
“But we kept them away from our goal, and that’s very important because with the more set-pieces they had, the more likely they were to score. With the penalty, I think it is a penalty. I think we were probably lucky with Ibou [Konate] that he didn’t get a second yellow there.
“We won the game, a difficult game and I’m really happy.”
Klopp was also happy for his side winning when they were not at their best. He said this will give a lot of confidence to him and his men. He continued,
“When we are flying, we win football games and when we are not, we still have to win.
“That’s what we did, and I liked a lot of parts of the performance. As a group we still have to grow together, get more stable and there were a lot of moments where we showed that.”
