Jurgen Klopp eyes German National Team after Liverpool contract expires

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp’s managerial future at Liverpool seems to be ‘uncertain’. Recent reports suggest the German won’t be seeking an extension to his current contract, which runs until June 2026. Despite the Reds’ recent success, Klopp appears hesitant to commit to a long-term deal due to his aspirations of eventually managing the German national team.

Renowned journalist Christian Falk revealed insights into Jurgen Klopp’s ambitions. He highlighted that the prospect of coaching the German side holds significant appeal to the Liverpool boss. Falk explained that Klopp’s primary focus remains on the possibility of leading his national team in the future. That is a role he seemingly wouldn’t want to jeopardize by committing to an extended contract at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp turned down the opportunity to manage Germany in September, with Julian Nagelsmann eventually taking the helm. Sources suggest Klopp won’t rush into making any concrete decisions regarding his future career moves. Falk emphasized Klopp’s intention to delay discussions about his managerial future until he approaches the end of his existing contract.

Liverpool planning to sign Xabi Alonso as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement

In anticipation of Jurgen Klopp’s eventual departure, Liverpool reportedly has a succession plan in place. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s priority choice to replace Klopp is Xabi Alonso, who has been impressively managing Bayer Leverkusen. However, Alonso’s availability in the future remain a crucial factor, as he is tied to a “gentleman’s agreement” with Leverkusen. This agreement would require any elite European club seeking Alonso’s services to negotiate a premium fee with Leverkusen for his release, should he still be under contract at that time.

As Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool continues, the club’s supporters await further developments regarding his future plans while also keeping a keen eye on the progress of Xabi Alonso, potentially positioning him as the successor to the iconic German manager at Anfield.
