According to El Nacional, Jurgen Klopp has demanded the Liverpool board to the Sweden striker Alexander Isak. The Real Sociedad forward has been under Klopp’s radar and the manager believes he fits perfectly in his plans.
The Swedish forward has been in the limelight since Euro 2020 where he just had 2 assists in 4 games, what caught the eye of many was his overall style of play and his off-the-ball input on the pitch. In 30 appearances for his country in all competitions, he has 9 goals and 3 assists.
Talking about his club contributions, Isak had 17 goals and 2 assists for Sociedad in the 2020/21 season. While the youngster has already scored 5 goals this season and has deservedly cemented his place in the starting-11.
Jurgen Klopp’s heightened interest in Isak could solve Liverpool’s no.9 issues
For many seasons now, Liverpool’s most goal contributions have come from their wingers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and playing in between the two is Roberto Firmino who plays as the team’s no.9. While the signing of Diogo Jota in 2020 often leads to rotation between him and Firmino.
However, both the players are not actually no.9s and hence play out of position in Klopp’s system. They tend to play a bit deeper to create spaces for their wingers to run through, hence increasing their effectiveness. The only pure striker the team has is Divock Origi but does not get much playing time.
Isak’s addition could increase Liverpool’s attacking intensity
It is believed that the Sweden international is an ideal fit for the Reds as he is fast and agile. Being just 22 yrs old, Isak has no lack of intensity and fitness. Matched with his physical attributes are his technical abilities, both on and off the ball.
He is one of the best players for both his club and country and being at the start of his career, he is both ambitious and determined to get on the top level. With Firmino now in his 30s and Jota being injury-prone, Jurgen Klopp is looking for a young striker at Liverpool upfront and Isak has emerged as a top choice.
It is reported that the Reds are ready to offer £34m to get him in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Arsenal is also highly pushing for the young forward and could go head to head with Liverpool. It will eventually come down to the player to convince Sociedad for an exit from the club, but it is believed that he will play in the Premier League soon.
