Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro reveals about the possibility of Xabi Alonso joining Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO shares the possibility of Xabi Alonso joining Liverpool in the near future. Xabi has been a legend for the people at Liverpool. The former Spaniard is doing a phenomenal job as a manager of German side Leverkusen. He joined them last year as a manager. Having been a saviour for them in the last campaign, he is now sitting at the top of Bundesliga table with his side. This has led to some rumours about a potential return for him at the Merseyside. Moreover, some reports suggest that he has a clause in his contract that he could be poached anytime by any of the club he has played in.

Speaking to Ben Jacobs, Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO Fernando Carro said that there is no such clause in the contract. The Director said,

“No, but you don’t need a clause. We have a very, very good relationship with Xabi and he knows we are a serious club. And at the end of the day, we’re not going to force someone to stay if he doesn’t want to stay. We want him to feel so happy and so good with us that he really only wants to stay and this is our objective.

There is nothing on paper [allowing Alonso to leave for a former club]. But sometimes agreements that are not on paper are agreements as well. We know if he needs to do a move in the future we will be able to talk with each other. And I hope we will not need to do this because he will stay and be happy at Leverkusen.”

Liverpool might not be the only one going for Xabi

Liverpool might not be the only club looking for the services of Xabi. Moreover, with Klopp contracted until 2026, it seems very unlikely for them to go for him now. Though, Leverkusen should worry about a call from Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. With Thomas Tuchel, Bayern also seem not to be much interested in the Spanish maestro as well. Real Madrid are most likely to be his next destination if he changes his mind in future.
