Liverpool Acquisition of Kylian Mbappe Unlikely says Fabrizio Romano

Kylian Mbappé

Despite ongoing speculation linking Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe with a move to Liverpool, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Reds are not in a position to afford the deal this summer. This news comes in stark contrast to their previous pursuit of the Frenchman, where they were actively involved in discussions.

Romano clarified:

“Now Liverpool have different priorities, and they don’t have the money to do this kind of deal.”

The financial landscape has changed significantly in the past year, and Liverpool’s current circumstances make it difficult for them to secure a player of Mbappe’s caliber. With the club unable to offer Champions League football next season, their appeal to top talents has diminished.

Given the current circumstances, it might be in Liverpool’s best interest to wait for another opportunity to pursue Mbappe. It is unlikely that Mbappe will leave PSG this summer, and his contract is set to expire next year. Liverpool’s goal should be to regain their position in the Champions League, making them a more attractive destination for Mbappe in the future.

Liverpool Interest in Kylian Mbappe an Old Affair

Mbappe’s connections to Liverpool date back several years. Jurgen Klopp and FSG chief John W. Henry reportedly held talks with the forward when he left Monaco for PSG on loan in 2017. Mbappe acknowledged discussions with Liverpool, stating,

“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favorite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool… It’s a big club.”

Liverpool’s Current Reality:

The speculation surrounding Mbappe’s future has been rife, with Real Madrid often viewed as the most likely destination. However, Liverpool’s name has consistently surfaced in discussions about Mbappe’s next move. While the Reds have shown interest and engaged in talks, the financial realities of the transfer market make it challenging for them to secure such a high-profile signing.

Liverpool fans are well aware of the club’s financial constraints. The club had to withdraw from the race to sign Jude Bellingham, with Real Madrid now likely to secure his services. Regardless, the prospect of signing Kylian Mbappe is a challenging proposition for Liverpool.
