According to The Sun, Liverpool are closing on a £60 million deal for Luis Diaz. Many major European clubs have monitored the situation of Luis Diaz in 2021. The Colombian has been in fine form for Porto and even for his country. Liverpool can get their hands on a fine attacker without much of a competition.
Luis Diaz has scored 14 goals and assisted 5 in 24 appearances for Porto in all competitions. Liverpool have shown their interest in the Colombian in recent weeks and are closing to a deal. He has been instrumental to Porto’s season and can replicate a similar performance at Liverpool.
Liverpool might lose some of their forwards due to the African Cup of Nations. Consequently, they will need some attacking depth in the squad for the time being. Moreover, Diaz can also deliver in the future as he is only 24-years-old and has a lot to go. He can also challenge for a spot in the playing 11 of Liverpool and make them even stronger in the attacking department.
However, if Liverpool intends to not play him regularly as they already have many forwards then investing £60 million is questionable. Diaz will have to do some serious work to get the nod ahead of Mane or Jota. However, he can provide some fresh legs coming off the bench.
What can Luis Diaz provide Liverpool?
Luis Diaz has displayed all the qualities a forward should have. He has great passing, finishing, dribbling abilities. However, the only areas he struggles with are crossing and defensive contribution. Nevertheless, Klopp can improve these areas too and he will have a dangerous forward.
Moreover, he is a player who likes to cut inside and does not dive into tackles. He makes 1.9 key passes, takes 2.7 shots, and completes 2.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). These statistics can improve when he will play at Liverpool and will be surrounded by better players. He can even challenge Mane for a starting position if he keeps up this form.
Liverpool may think about offloading Mane in the future. Therefore, getting a replacement beforehand is what top clubs do. Luis Diaz has the potential to be a top player and deliver week in and week out. The only question is how much he can adapt to the English game and Klopp’s high demands.
Although there are no things between Liverpool and Porto as of yet a deal does not look off the charts in near future. Liverpool can think of acquiring Luis Diaz in the summer. Diaz should keep up with this form because if he fails to do so then Liverpool might lose their interest. However, if he keeps this form then Liverpool might get some competition.
