Liverpool eyes Fulham’s Antonee Robinson for left-back woes

Liverpool

Liverpool is facing a left-back crisis and is considering Fulham’s Antonee Robinson as a solution. The Reds’ troubles escalated when injuries sidelined Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, leaving them short on options for that position.

With Robertson out due to a shoulder injury and Tsimikas also sidelined with a collarbone injury, Liverpool is now turning to Joe Gomez and young Luke Chambers to fill in. Seeking reinforcement, Liverpool has reportedly approached Fulham regarding a potential deal for Antonee Robinson.

According to reports, the 26-year-old left-back is open to joining Liverpool in January. However, his contract with Fulham until 2028 could make this transfer a costly affair, especially in midst of the season.

Robinson has been a crucial figure for Fulham this season, starting in 18 Premier League games and contributing three assists. Known for his speed and athleticism, he has earned praise from peers like Wolves’ Matt Doherty for his swift and energetic playing style.

Antonee Robinson’s Everton Journey: A Missed Opportunity

The left-back’s journey started at Everton. In Everton, he joined the youth ranks at a tender age but never secured a first-team appearance. Everton sold Antonee Robinson to Wigan Athletic in 2019 for a modest fee of £2 million. That move proved to be beneficial as he excelled during a loan spell before signing permanently.

Stepping up to the Premier League with Fulham in 2020, Antonee Robinson has established himself as a reliable asset, making Everton’s decision to let him go appear regrettable.

The prospect of Robinson potentially joining Liverpool poses an extra sting for Everton. If the transfer materializes, Everton could face their former prospect in Merseyside derbies, highlighting the frustration of letting a promising talent slip away, only to witness him flourish elsewhere, and possibly with their rivals.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Antonee Robinson reflects their urgency to address the left-back void. It presents a possible opportunity for the American international to return to Merseyside, this time wearing the Liverpool shirt.
