Liverpool FC’s ‘unsung hero’ is on the verge of leaving the club

Liverpool

Liverpool FC might witness another player leave their club this summer. Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool aim for a rebuild this summer because of which they have witnessed a major ‘clear out‘ in their squad. Multiple departures, including the big ones of Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Fabinho, have already taken place. However, it seems like the list will not stop yet as one their ‘unsung heroes‘ is on the verge of leaving them this summer.

According to reports, Liverpool’s centre-back, Nat Phillips is in ‘advanced talks‘ with Leeds United. Phillips, who was one of the most crucial players in 2020/21, which was an extremely turbulent season for Liverpool. His incredible and consistent display helped Liverpool finish third in the Premier League, despite the club’s poor performance that season. However, since then, Phillips has struggled to get enough playing time. With the Reds having Van Dijk, Konaté, Matip and Gomez, Phillips has spent the last two seasons mostly sitting on the bench.

Leeds United in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Phillips from Liverpool

Leeds United are very keen on signing the defender. Daniel Farke rates Phillips ‘highly‘ and feels that the player would be a great addition to his side. According to Rudy Galetti of SportItalia, Leeds United are willing to offer £10 million + add-ons to Liverpool for Phillips.

With the departure of Maximilian Wöber to Borussia Mönchengladbach on a season-long loan, Leeds have become a little short staffed at the back. Farke only has 3 centre-backs left in his squad right now. Both Pascal Struijk and Charlie Cresswell have been quite inconsistent with their performances, leaving Liam Cooper as the only strong and consistent CB in the their squad.

Phillips also had an incredible loan spell with Bournemouth. He was one of the most influential players in their successful promotion to the Premier League last season. Leeds United also target promotion this season, after experiencing a heart-breaking relegation last season. Nat Phillips’ defensive abilities makes him a beast at the back. He is strong in aerial duels and his awareness makes him very strong in one-on-one situations as well. Leeds also beleive that Phillips’ experience will be very valuable for them, in their quest to achieve promotion this season.
