The Liverpool season looked to be in massive doubt after the 1-0 defeat against Leicester City in the Premier League last month. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were both heading off to AFCON and the Liverpool faithful had massive doubts in their heads about whether the team could pick up results due to the two stars missing from the squad.

But the club have made a key addition to the squad in the January transfer window. The return of English winger Harvey Elliott from the horrible ankle injury he picked up when Liverpool played against Leeds back in September. With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both set to return to the squad, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool look stronger than ever.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both clashed off in the AFCON final. But Sadio Mane’s Senegal won 4-2 on penalties and lifted the trophy. Liverpool also signed Porto winger Luis Diaz in the January transfer window. Diaz has been in exceptional form this term for Porto. He has recorded 16 goals and 6 assist in 28 appearances in all competitions. (stats via Transfermarkt)

The reds did miss out on signing Fulham young prospect Fabio Carvalho on transfer deadline day. The two clubs were close to reaching a complete agreement but the deadline of transfer deadline day ran out.

Did Liverpool miss Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah?

The club’s form was destined to go down with Salah and Mane both missing due to their involvement in the AFCON. But Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to grind results out even with the absence of the star wingers. The club are unbeaten since the defeat to Leicester City in the league last month.

The club have also made the EFL Cup final against Chelsea. While they are also just nine points off league leaders Manchester City. But Liverpool do have one game in hand compared to the league leaders. The squad managed to do quite good despite the star wingers missing.

Can Harvey Elliott be the difference maker for Liverpool for the rest of the season?

Harvey Elliott was on loan last term with Championship side Blackburn Rovers. He made a really good impression with the Championship outfit. He recorded an impressive seven goals and eleven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Championship side. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Jurgen Klopp decided to give Harvey Elliott a chance in the first team after his impressive loan spell away. The England international made four appearances in the league before the horrible ankle injury he picked up against Leeds United. He can certainly make a good impression in the first team if given the opportunity for the remaining of the season.
