Liverpool wants to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk. According to a report by Calciomercato, Liverpool already have a bid prepared for the player. The proposal will be made in the January transfer window to Donetsk. However, they are not the only ones after the player. Clubs such as Arsenal and Sevilla have also expressed an interest in signing the player in the transfer window.

The winger is just 21 years of age and in electric form for Donetsk. Mudryk has scored two goals in two matches of the Champions League this season. This has caught the attention of a lot of European clubs. He is speedy, decisive and clinical in front of the goal. Consequently, he has had frequent links with Premier League clubs such as Brentford and Everton. Everton had a £26m bid refused by the clubs. Liverpool will hope that they see some success in their bid for the winger.

Does the transfer make sense for Liverpool?

Murdyk’s most effective position is in the left wing. However, that spot is currently occupied by Luis Diaz. It is worth noting that Diaz is a fan favorite in Anfield. Moreover, his performance in the Liverpool shirt has been the only positive in a lackluster Liverpool side. Luis Diaz is just 25 years of age and is entering his prime years. This means Mudryk will struggle for minutes at Liverpool. However, having depth in the squad is vital for a team such as Liverpool. Liverpool lost three forwards this season and only two have arrived to fill in the vacancy. The two new signings have struggled to make an impact at Anfield. Darwin Nunez is off to a sputtering start whereas Fabio Carvalho is out injured. This is when squad depth helps out a lot. A swoop for Mudryk in the January transfer window will help Liverpool’s depth problem a lot. Moreover, it will help them maintain consistency across the multiple competitions that they are a part of.
