According to the world-renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are preparing to open contractual talks with Sadio Mane. The 29-year-old is one of Liverpool’s most important players. The Reds have enjoyed some of their best moments of recent times with Sadio Mane. His current contract is expiring in 2023 and Liverpool cannot afford to lose one of their most important players. He has made 17 appearances this season and has scored 9 goals and assisted one.
The other forward Mohamed Salah had problems renewing his contract which is being highlighted quite often because of Salah’s ‘one of the world’s best’ status. However, Liverpool have made some progress in those talks and are now looking forward to renewing Sadio Mane’s contract. Although both of their contracts are ending in 2023 very little was talked about Mane’s contractual situation. Mane has scored some of the most important goals for Liverpool in their march to win the Premier League after 30 long years and also lifting the Champions League trophy for the sixth time in Liverpool’s history.
Many clubs would come running if Mane’s contract expires. Liverpool should sort this situation as soon as they can to avoid something false happening later. They should also keep in mind that they face a similar situation with Mohamed Salah and must resolve it at the earliest.
How important is Sadio Mane to Liverpool?
Liverpool signed Sadio Mane in 2016 which was the most expensive transfer for an African player at that moment. Since then, he has played two Champions League finals for Liverpool while winning one of those against Tottenham. Within three years from signing Mane, Liverpool were challenging for the title and won it in 2019. Liverpool’s frontline of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah is deemed to be one of the best in recent times. Their amazing link-up play and chemistry is a treat to the eye.
However, Sadio Mane is not only important in the attacking business but also for his contributions to defence. Klopp’s main reason behind favouring this front three is because of their work off the ball. Mane’s effective pressing makes it easier for his teammates to win the ball and hit teams on the counter. He always works off the ball makes important interceptions. He was also in the conversation of potential Balon d’Or winners a few years ago, and even one of the best players of all time Lionel Messi had voted for Sadio Mane for Balon d’Or.
After their recent match against Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp has defended Sadio Mane and reminded the press that he was taken off against Atletico Madrid because he was on a yellow card. Mane even scored against Atletico Madrid in the return fixture at Anfield. Some may have stopped to see it but he is still one of the best Liverpool players in the current squad and he has still a lot to offer for Liverpool. The Reds look in great form this season and Mane will only help them to achieve the best they can.
