According to Sky Sports News, there was a slim chance of Philippe Coutinho returning to Liverpool. However, he finally joined Aston Villa and reunited with Steven Gerrard. He has signed a six-month loan deal with Villa which will seem him complete the rest of the season in the Premier League.

Liverpool had the chance to sign the Brazilian again. Moreover, Coutinho was also willing to put on a Red jersey again. However, Liverpool to not go ahead with the move as they did not have significant interest in this signing. Moreover, he has linked with other Premier League clubs also but finally chose a loan move to Villa.

Philippe Coutinho has only scored twice in the 16 appearances he made for Barcelona this season. He has gone out of favor at the club and needed a fresh start to revive his career. Moreover, with the performances he has shown at Barcelona, it was unlikely that a big club will sign him or take him on loan. He has previously displayed great quality in Premier League that can help him be a great success at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa can help Coutinho get back in good form and start troubling all the Premier League clubs again. He has previously played with Gerrard and that can help him adapt quickly to the club. If he succeeds with this loan deal then he may have another shot at Barcelona or a move to a better club than Aston Villa.

Why Liverpool chose not to reunite with Coutinho?

Coutinho has not shown his quality of Liverpool for a long long time. Moreover, Liverpool rarely makes signings that are not useful in one way or the other. There was no guarantee that Coutinho can start a game in this Liverpool squad. The current squad is already full of potential and talent and Coutinho can have a hard time getting some playing time.

Moreover, it would be a wasteful investment if a signing is made and not played for most of the matches. Coutinho maybe would have suffered from the same issues that he suffered at Barcelona. The Brazilian would have felt the pressure to succeed and might have fluffed the chance he got.

Moreover, Klopp would also have some pressure from fans to give some game time to Coutinho even when he’s not performing at his best. However, he can express himself at Aston Villa and try new things and take risks. He can gain his confidence back and start putting in shifts week in and week out.

Although it would be a good move to the eye, it would not be a good move going forward for the club. However, Coutinho has a second chance and should grab this opportunity with both his hands. He can revive his career and get his reputation back. Some fans may feel nostalgic when he runs through a few defenders and smashes on into the top corner from outside the box.
