Liverpool wants to sign the wonderkind who is also a target for Manchester United

Liverpool wants to sign Flamengo wonderkid Joao Gomes in the next transfer window. The Reds wanted to sign a new midfielder for the entirety of the transfer window. In the end, they settled for Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus. Fresh reports have suggested that a new midfielder could join Liverpool in the next transfer window. The Flamengo star will be one of the targets for Liverpool along with Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham

Gomes himself has expressed his desire to play for the Reds.

“Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play”,

Gomes told ESPN Brazil.

“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

Gomes’ most significant strength is his versatility. He can play as a central midfielder, defensive midfielder, or even as a right winger. The Reds could use this versatility on the pitch after injury to key players in each position. Thiago Alcantara is out of the squad due to injuries and has missed six games this season. Naby Keita is also yet to play a game for Liverpool this season due to his injuries. James Milner, who is 36 years of age, has played 300 minutes of football this season due to a string of injuries.

To alleviate the problems in the midfield, the Reds signed Arthur Melo from Juventus on loan. However, Arthur is not a long-term investment for Liverpool. But, according to Julio Miguel Neto, Gomes is a long-term target for Liverpool. Gomes is a successor to Fabinho who is also a Brazilian. Liverpool’s signing of Gomes alongside Bellingham will sort out their midfield for many years to come.
