Liverpool have not given up on their aim of signing Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. This is according to a report by Fussball Transfers which states that along with Liverpool, Real Madrid too wants to get their hands on the midfielder. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will fight tooth and nail to sign the player who was likened to Sadio Mane in recent years. Nkunku’s current release clause set at €60m will expire in 2024. Multiple clubs are interested in the player who has had some brilliant individual performances in the past few years.

Nkunku has had 36 goals and 20 assists in 52 games for RB Leipzig last season. He has had a good start to this season as well, with six goals and an assist in eleven games so far this season. Recently, reports have emerged of a secret medical with Chelsea. This effectively puts them first on the priority list for the sale of Nkunku. However, Liverpool have still not given up on the transfer of Nkunku. Liverpool still have a chance, albeit small, of signing the player.

Liverpool are still very much in the mix for Nkunku

According to Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, despite there being an agreement worth €60 million between Chelsea and Leipzig for the player, Liverpool are ‘still very much in the mix. The tweet reads as:

“Agreement in principle between Christopher Nkunku and Chelsea for a transfer next summer. The attacker passed his medical examination but not in Frankfurt as indicated by the German press. Chelsea are ready to lift the €60m purchase clause. Liverpool are there too.”

Liverpool are off to a stuttering start in the Premier League. They sit ninth in the League with just two wins in their last five matches. They have had a loss and two draws in their last five games as well. Liverpool needs reinforcements in the defense and it needs them as soon as next season. Christopher Nkunku is a great option for reinforcement. The transfer is difficult for sure, but not impossible.
