Luis Diaz’s father, Luis Manuel Diaz, was kidnapped by left-wing rebels near the Colombian-Venezuelan border in Barrancas. As Diaz, Liverpool‘s and Colombia’s star winger, has received a lot of support from the government, locals, and his football club, the demand remains strong for the immediate release of his father.
The Liverpool forward’s father has been missing since Saturday night when he was kidnapped at a Colombian petrol station while his wife was also taken but has since been successfully rescued.
Luis Diaz speaks up on social media
Luis Diaz has spoken out about his father’s abduction, using Instagram to promote a vigil for Luis Manuel Diaz. The Liverpool forward uploaded a story with his father’s picture along with the caption:
“MARCH FOR THE RELEASE OF “MANE” DIAZ We notify the entire community • BARRANCA, LA GUAJIRA, COLOMBIA, TUESDAY OCT 31 CEMETERY PARK, 5:00 PM, Bring your candle to light the light of hope – FREE HIM NOW!“
Also, Reports from home country of Luis Diaz reveal that Colombian authorities are searching a forest to find Luis Manuel Diaz. Both of Diaz’s parents were taken near their home in Barrancas as they stopped to get gas on Saturday night while going to a friend’s house. His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, has been rescued and is safe. Colombia’s elite Jungle Commandos are now involved to help bring his father back safely.
Further, Pep Lijnders, Liverpool’s assistant coach addressed to the media,
“We try to support him now as much as we can – lot of things out of our hands.
I think and I feel that it’s only for Liverpool Football Club that the players know we’re doing the right thing. It’s not for me to say what we’re doing for Luis Diaz.
Also, He added on –
“As long as he knows that we’re doing all the right things and we pray. The whole club is behind him. He has that feeling then, for me, it’s right“.
Moreover, After their 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, similar thoughts were expressed by Reds manager Jurgen Klopp. Additionally, he talked about how the issue surrounding Luis Diaz’s father has affected the whole team
