Liverpool have had a slow start to the season so far. Lack of intensity, injuries, and fatigue have all contributed to this. Liverpool has had only four victories so far in the league. In these dark times, Luis Diaz has looked like a shining star for Liverpool. Diaz has performed brilliantly each time he has been called upon to deliver. This was the case as well when Liverpool took on Rangers on matchday three of the Champions League.

Luis Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in the January transfer window of 2022 for a transfer fee of £37 million. Moreover, the fee could rise to as much as £49 million if the add-ons are triggered by his performances at Anfield. The gamble on Diaz has paid off tenfold, he is the best player for Liverpool in their current state. Moreover, the winger has had four goals so far in the campaign. Diaz came off the bench against Brighton Hove Albion and assisted Firminio’s goal which equalized the score for Liverpool. In Liverpool’s match against Brighton, Diaz won five out of his eight duels and had 37 touches in 45 minutes for the Reds

Luis Diaz against the Rangers

Rangers struggle against teams who press and keep possession. This was the case on match day three as well. Diaz was electric in the match, with the ball, and off the ball as well. While Salah, Jota, and Firminio have had indifferent starts to the season, Diaz has continued his fine form from the last season. His blistering pace was the reason Liverpool won a penalty which Salah converted successfully. As such, Diaz is looking sharper and sharper with each game he plays for Liverpool. He has become a vital player for the Reds through this tough period. Moreover, he will continue to be a key player through the intense schedule that precedes the start of the World Cup in November.
