In a recent interview, former Aston Villa and England international Gabriel Agbonlahor claimed that Liverpool‘s new signing Luis Diaz could help Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah reach new heights.

Liverpool signed Luiz Diaz from the Portuguese side FC Porto in the January transfer window. Tottenham Hotspurs were also keen on this winger but Liverpool managed to recruit the attacker. Reports suggest that the final transfer fee was close to £37.5 million and £12.5 million in potential add ons.

The Columbian winger has been on top form this term. He made a total of 27 appearances for the Portuguese outfit in all competitions in the first half of the season. In this time he recorded an impressive 16 goals and six assists in all competitions. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Since his switch to Anfield, he has made five appearances for the reds. Despite not recording any goals or assist. He has still given a very good impression of himself to the Liverpool faithful. The crowd has been behind the winger every time he gets the ball.

The arrival of Luiz Diaz at Liverpool means that the competition for places in the starting lineup grows even further. But most importantly for Jurgen Klopp, now he has five elite forwards at his disposal in Mane, Diaz, Salah, Jota, and Roberto Firmino. Jurgen Klopp can also call upon highly-rated youngster Harvey Elliott who is now fully fit and recovered from a horrible ankle injury.

Gabriel Agbonlahor’s verdict on Liverpool and Luiz Diaz

Talking to Football Insider about how important Luiz Diaz can be for Liverpool. Gabriel Agbonlahor said:

I like him.

“He looks like a Liverpool player. What he will do is offer a helping hand to Jota, Salah and Mane so they can be rotated more, that’s massively important and it’s massive that the other players are welcoming the competition.

“It’s a great signing from Jurgen Klopp and he’ll definitely be a success at Liverpool.”

Liverpool star forward Sadio Mane talking to American outlet CBS Sports after the Champions League round of 16 clash against Inter Milan insisted that he welcomed the signing of Diaz as it would make him a better player. The Colombian winger replaced Sadio Mane at the hour mark with the score level at 1-1 in the Inter Milan clash.
