After Pep Guardiola let the Portugal international to depart Man City, Carlos Carvalhal spoke about Joao Cancelo. The manager, who is 57 years old and is presently jobless, said these things to SPORT.

On the day of the transfer deadline, Man City let the Portuguese defender to sign a loan agreement with Barcelona for the 2023–24 season.

Following a disagreement between the two, Guardiola also let Cancelo to join Bayern Munich on loan for the second half of the 2022–23 season. According to The Guardian, the 52-year-old became frustrated by the 29-year-old’s outburst after being benched in favour of Rico Lewis. Guardiola got weary of his attitude issues.

Cancelo has been among the most valuable players in Europe ever since he joined Barcelona. In his first five La Liga games, the Portuguese has already scored two goals and given one assist.

Carvalhal has now said that he believes Man City let “one of the best” go. Carlos Carvalhal formerly coached Swansea City in the Premier League. The Braga-born tactician stated saying

“It is Pep Guardiola’s fault. He is one of the best right-backs in the world, a great winger, but he has done a master’s degree with Pep at Man City.”

Carvalhal further added

“He now has the ability to react, shoot, unmark, knows how to make the last pass. Xavi will also know how to take advantage of the player.”

Joao Cancelo had to leave Man City, no matter how talented he was

Nobody connected to Man City has ever questioned Cancelo’s skill. But under Guardiola, you need more than that to be successful. Players just have to understand that if they want to be a part of Guardiola’s team that the Spaniard frequently swaps his lineup. Players like Phil Foden all too well know.

One thing one can’t do under the Santpedor-born strategist is cause a scene and cause a commotion because you’ll be kicked out. Cancelo has recently learned that. Guardiola made the right choice, regardless of how well the defender from Barreiro performs for Barcelona.
