While it looked like a quiet January transfer window and an even boring end on the deadline day of the January transfer window for Manchester City. Manchester City did sign Argentian striker Julián Álvarez from River Plate. But the striker is set to join the club in the summer and remains with the Argentinian outfit until the summer. Julian Alvarez has drawn massive comparisons to Manchester City’s legendary Argentinian striker and top scorer of all time Sergio Aguero.
The club also let go of Spanish winger Ferran Torres who joined Barcelona. While it seemed like a quiet deadline day for the Premier League champions. City did let go of four academy graduates on deadline day.
Matt Smith
The Welsh international joined MK Dons on a permanent transfer after spending eight years to the club and five loan moves away from the club. The academy graduate made 55 appearances for City’s academy teams. While he featured in 112 senior appearances while on loan away from the club and also has 15 international caps to his name.
Talking about his move away from Man City on transfer deadline day, he said:
“It was time for me to move on away from City and I don’t think I could have found a better Club to join. The facilities here are fantastic and the players and staff seem fantastic too. There is a real project going on here and I wanted to be a part of that.”
Luke Bolton
Luke Bolton joined League Two side Salford City on a permanent transfer. Bolton had previous loan spells at Wycombe, Luton, and Dundee United. The City academy graduate has signed a two years deal with Salford.
In an interview after the move, Bolton talked about his aim to gain promotion with Salford City, he said:
“It just seems right; I was coming to the end of my contract at Man City and I just really need to go and play men’s football consistently and be part of something properly, instead of a few loans here and there. When you sign for a club that’s your everything then.
Sammy Robinson and Camron Gbadebo
Defenders Sammy Robinson and Camron Gbadebo also secured a move away from Manchester on deadline day. Camron Gbadebo joined Colchester on a permanent basis until the end of the season. While Sammy Robinson joins League Two side Port Vale on a permanent deal. The defender has signed an 18-month contract with the League Two outfit.
