Man Utd linked with PSV’s Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo has emerged as the new Man Utd target amid speculation surrounding the PSV player.

With the imminent appointment of Erik Ten Hag sparking a major revamp in Old Trafford’s dressing room, he’s looking for signing major players to bolster the squad.

Ten Hag has just moved from Eredivisie and he has a crystal clear idea of who Gakpo is.

Thanks to Cody Gakpo, Roger Schmidt’s PSV have given Ajax a tough time in Eredivisie. The 23-year-old is very impressive with numbers too with 12 goals, and 13 assists in 27 appearances.

With three back-to-back solid seasons, Gakpo can potentially replace Rashford who shouldn’t but can leave Old Trafford.

With speculations surrounding him, Cody Gakpo in a press conference addressed transfer speculations surrounding him. He quoted,

Anything can happen this summer. I will now calmly compare all the options and see what is best for me. Staying another year is also an option. It would be a shame if I went somewhere and didn’t get a job at all and I may miss the world cup. I’ll keep that in mind.

Gakpo vs. Rashford

The 23-year Holland international is much better in numbers and versatility as compared to Rashford. A move to Old Trafford would be an upgrade for both parties and make the most out of 180,000 per week wage.

Gakpo this season has created a staggering 71 chances, classifying 11 of those as big chances. With an average of 3.8 shots per 90, his stats dwarf Rashford’s stats at 1.6 p/g.

Rashford in his 25 appearances has scored 4 goals with two assists and created a mere 9 chances. If we talk in terms of stats Gakpo is 9 times better than Rashford.

The PSV wizard may cost 30-40 million but is completely worth it. A potential sale of Marcus Rashford this summer will make way for this transfer. Man Utd is not alone in this transfer race but are accompanied by fellow rivals a.k.a. the gunners from London.

It’s very difficult to say who needs to come in and go out as Man Utd is seriously flawed in almost every position. Defense is shaky, Mid-field doesn’t have the strength, the attack doesn’t score goals, and so on.

Ten Hag not only needs time but needs deep pockets to initiate the build-up.
