Manchester City accept Al-Nassr’s bid for Aymeric Laporte

The latest news from the Man City camp suggests that City have accepted a bid from Al-Nassr for their centre-back, Aymeric Laporte. Laporte was reportedly looking to leave the club for a long time, after seeing a great reduction in his playing time. So far, City haven’t received any official offers for Laporte, despite reported interest from multiple clubs. The French CB has been training with City so far, while waiting for an opportunity to move on.

The 29-year old CB was a regular starter for City under Guardiola till the 2022/23 season. After the signing of Manuel Akanji, Laporte didn’t get a lot of regular starts. A thing which also impacted his place in the team was Nathan Aké’s rise during that time. After Pep changed his system, which saw John Stones play as DM, allowing 3 CBs to play, Laporte became Pep’s least favourite pick. Usually, City would go with Akanji, Dias and Aké, with Walker coming in sometimes as well. Laporte only made 12 appearances in The Premier League last season.

City recently signed the world-class Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig as well. It is said that Gvardiol was signed by City as a replacement for Laporte, who is expected to depart this summer. Also the quality that Gvardiol brings is going to make City’s defence much stronger than they already are. Therefore, with another CB arriving, Laporte’s postion in the team seems to have gone down even further.

Laporte looks set to join Al-Nassr

According to The Sun, even though the deal isn’t finalised yet, it seems highly likely that Laporte will be joining Al-Nassr. The player and his agent will be discussing terms with Al-Nassr’s representatives in the upcoming days. If Laporte signs for them, Nassr will add another big and prolific star in their squad.

Al-Nassr are experiencing a great transfer window this summer. They have already added some of the biggest names into their team. Sadio Mané, Marcelo Brozoviç, Seko Fofana are the big names from Europe that have joined the club this summer. Also, with the presence of arguably the greatest player ever, Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr are reaching great heights. They recently won the Arab Champions Cup for the first time in their history.

Nassr would love to have an addition like Laporte into their side. Despite not being a regular starter for City in the recent times, there is no doubt about the quality that he possesses. For Laporte as well, it will a great experience to play along side top players and witness the development of The Saudi Pro League.
