Manchester City keeper Bazunu completes move

According to a report by The Athletic, Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu completed a move to Southampton. Also, both the clubs agreed to a transfer fee of around  £12 million upfront.

Also according to the same Athletic report, the deal could reach in the region of £15m with add-ons included. Fraser Forster of Southampton exited the club for a move to Tottenham Hotspurs. They had to act fast in the summer transfer window to replace him and they definitely did so.

Add to that, the report also claimed that Manchester City included a buy back clause in the transfer contract. It shows that how highly the blue side of Manchester rates the goalkeeper. But unfortunately, since his arrival in 2019, the keeper is yet to make a single senior appearance for the club. However, he made a few U-18 and U-23 apps for the club.

Manchester City Keeper

After joining Man City, the club loaned out the Ireland international a couple of times. In the 2020-21, the club loaned him out to Rochdale and in the 2021-22 season the player secured a loan move to Portsmouth. The 20-year old youngster also earned 10 caps for his nation Republic of Ireland.

It was quite difficult for Bazanu to break into the first team as Man City’s starting goalkeeper is Ederson. And certainly, the club won’t replace him anytime soon. Add to that, Zack Steffen cemented himself as the backup goalie and the club here also has no intention to part ways.

Now, if we believe the reports as true, Bazanu is all set to play for Portsmouth’s biggest rivals, Southampton. Both Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster did not establish themselves as the first choice during their stay. While McCarthy decided to stay, Forster moved on. Bringing in someone young like Bazanu can be an intelligent move. He can provide competition to McCarthy and eventually replace him with more experience.
