Former Belgian international Vincent Kompany is appointed by Championship team Burnley as their manager.

Burnley sacked Sean Dyche in April and Mike Jackson took over as the interim coach. However, he was unable to revive the fortunes of the club.

Burnley was unfortunate as they were the last team to get relegated from this year’s Premier League.

The Clarets were fast in appointing the former Manchester City captain. This explains their determination to get themselves back into the Premier League for next season.

Kompany won the Premier League with City four times during his playing career. Moreover, the formerly managed Belgian club Anderlecht for two years.

After his appointment with the Clarets, he told the club’s official website:

Burnley Football Club is a truly historic English side and it is an honor to be appointed first-team manager. I’m excited by the challenge ahead.”

I’m looking forward to getting to work with the players and creating a positive, winning team for our fans when we return to Turf Moor.”

I’ve been impressed by the board’s vision for the club which aligns with my own and I look forward to playing my part as we enter an important season.”

Kompany is vastly experienced when it comes to playing in the Premier League and dealing with English teams.

He was an important member of the City team for more than a decade. He was instrumental in winning many trophies with the club.

Therefore, he comes with a lot of hope for Burnley.
