Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola dropped a bombshell after he announced ‘he may leave the club’ after one season. Pep Guardiola has won 17 trophies with Manchester City. This season will conclude his ninth season at the club. Manchester City again ended the season with flying colours. They won the Premier League fourth time in a row.

Despite crashing out of Champions League against Real Madrid and losing FA Cup against Manchester United. This was still a successful season for Manchester City. However after spoiling Jurgen Klopp’s farewell and Arsenal fans dreams Pep Guardiola has left the fans with many questions. The biggest question will be regarding Manchester City next manager.

Speaking a week ago, Guardiola told reporters: “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club and my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But after eight or nine years, we will see.” After this statement nothing is sure over the manager’s future in the club.

Options for Manchester City next manager

According to reports in Spain Man City have made Girona boss Michel their number one target to replace Guardiola in 2025 after the Spaniard may decide to end his time at Man City. The Girona manager showed great tactical flexibility after competing with Spanish Giants Real Madrid and Barcelona for the league title. He took Girona to a third place finish as well as Champions league next season.  Man City also have Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as potential options.

Moreover it will be a difficult job for any manager due to the expectations Pep Guardiola left with. Man City will find it difficult to replicate the same level of success with a new manager. However as clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and potentially Manchester United are also appointing new managers. It will be interesting to see who will prevail in this transition era. Manchester City’s main focus will be to extend Pep Guardiola’s contract for the upcoming seasons.

How this situation can affect the squad?

Following the Pep Guardiola’s speculations we may very well see big changes in the squad as well. Kevin De Bruyne’s contract will also end after this season. Looking at the current situation the Belgian star midfielder may not end up extending his contract. Manchester City’s record signing Jack Grealish may also end up leaving the club after struggling to find his form. He is also struggling with lack of game time due to competition with youngster Jeremy Doku. Bernado Silva may also end up leaving due to his 50 million release clause with interest from Barcelona. We can also see the departure of Goalkeeper duo of Ederson and Stefan Ortega. Manchester City next manager will have plenty of problems to look for.

Another big challenge will be to help Erling Haaland find his form back. Haaland lost possession more times (14) than he completed passes (11) over two legs against Real. It was disappointing to see how Lisandro Martinez towered over him at Wembley.

Pep Guardiola on his poor run of form said: “When you are involved in the game, when the time comes to score a goal you are more precise. It’s difficult to score when you do not touch the ball for 40 minutes. Sometimes it’s his fault but other times it’s our fault.”

All these issues will be needed to resolve by Manchester City next manager. These concerns will be big factor for the Manchester City’s future and the players future.
