Manchester City player ratings in a shock defeat to RB Leipzig

Here we have the Manchester City player ratings as RB Leipzig defeats 10-men City. RB Leipzig hosted Manchester City for the last game of the Champions League group stage. The Red Bulls defeated City 2-1 at their home ground however they failed to qualify for the last 16. Nevertheless, they have qualified for Europa League knockout stages.

In the 24th minute, Leipzig started from their goal kick and were able to give the ball to Konrad Laimer. The Austrian international was quick to release Dominik Szoboszlai with a brilliant pass through the City defense. Szoboszlai went round the goal-keeper and finished exquisitely.

Leipzig doubled their advantage in the 71st minute as City lost the ball high on the pitch. Emil Forsberg carried the ball only to pass it to Andre Silva who finishes on the near post.

However, Manchester City were able to pull one back just 5 minute after Leipzig got their second. In the 76th minute, City scored their only goal of the match with a header tap-in from Riyad Mahrez which came from a pinpoint cross from Oleksandr Zinchenko.

However, there was more bad news for City as Kyle Walker received a straight red card for his unnecessary challenge on Andre Silva. He will now be suspended for the first their first knockout games and is a huge loss for Manchester City.

Manchester City have won the group ahead of PSG with just one point margin. RB Leipzig had a tough group to qualify but they will be playing in the Europa League knockouts and still stand a chance for a European trophy.

Zack Steffan – 8/10

He made four brilliant saves in the first-half. Moreover, he got the City’s man of the match award which is rare for an attacking team like City.

Kyle Walker – 3/10

Never got to his best and was poor while defending the Leipzig goals. Furthermore, he made an unnecessary challenge and got himself a straight red.

John Stones – 4/10

Should have stepped to the occasion and needed to get his form back. However, Leipzig were motivated enough to cause this man trouble.

Nathan Ake – 6/10

Was not at mistake while conceding the goals. However, he does not have the eye for a killer pass or to build from the back as Laporte does.

Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6/10

He was also shut down by Leipzig and found it hard to make it easy for himself. However, he provided a wonderful cross for the Mahrez goal.

Fernandinho – 6/10

Usually sat back even though City were behind and chasing the game. Also, he did not look comfortable in the game.

Ilkay Gundogan – 6/10

He tried to make things happen for City but eventually fell short with his teammates and became sloppy.

Kevin de Bruyne – 5/10

Missed a lot of games through injury which was quite evident in the game. He has to get a good run of fixtures to get back to his best.

Riyad Mahrez – 6/10

Got on the scoresheet yet again but he also failed to influence the game much like his teammates.

Phil Foden – 5/10

Phil Foden did not have a good game as he gave poor passes and horrible touches. As a result, he was taken off at halftime.

Jack Grealish – 6/10

Was not able to play the false 9 role and later moved to the left as Sterling took the job.

Substitutes

Raheem Sterling – 6/10

He did change a few things as he got in the false 9 role. However, he did not have much of an impact.

Did not get enough time to make an impact.
