Manchester City prospect Oscar Tarensi set to join FC Girona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City young left-back Oscar Tarensi is set to join FC Girona on loan until the end of the season in the January transfer window. Oscar Tarensi was initially signed by Pep Guardiola three years ago.

He was labelled as ‘highly-rated’ and one to look out for in the future. But he has failed to break through in the first team and has failed to gain a single minute of senior football so far.

Oscar Tarensi has made 20 appearances in the youth system of Manchester City. He was a part of the squad that won last season’s Premier League 2. But he has failed to make his mark in the Premier League 2. The left-back has bouncing between the Under 23s and Under 18 squad since his move in 2019.

The Manchester City youth system has produced the likes of Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho. While Oscar has seen the likes of Cole Palmer, James McAtee and Liam Delap get first-team opportunities ahead of him.

FC Girona- A part of the City football group umbrella

FC Girona are a part of the City football group umbrella. Girona are currently in the 2nd tear of the Spanish league. The club are currently 6th in the league table and have a very good chance of fighting for promotion this term. If they gain promotion, this will be the first time Girona will be back in the La Liga since the 2018/19 campaign.

Manchester City have sent many different players on loan to Girona in the past few seasons. Five players have joined the Catalan club on loan in the past three years. The likes of  Patrick Roberts, Douglas Luiz and Angelino have all spent with the Catalan club on loan.

Are Manchester City making a good move by letting Oscar Tarensi go?

We have many players from the Manchester City academy like Phil Foden make the breakthrough into the first team and make a real impact. But in the case of Oscar, the left-back looks unlikely to make the breakthrough into the first team.

A loan move to his native county and playing regularly in a respectable league may turn out to work for all parties involved. With Girona part of the City footballing Group, a potential comeback may be on the cards if Oscar Tarensi does fulfil his potential on home soil.
