Manchester City had a season full of ups and downs. They managed to win the Premier League for the fourth consecutive year. However they failed to win anymore silverware. City were knocked out by a shocking defeat against Newcastle in Carabao cup. They reached the FA cup final but proceeded to lose it against United in a Manchester derby. In Champions league, City were defeated by Real Madrid on penalties in quarter finals. City have reported to have began their prepartion for the next season with a hope of winning more silverware. Except the new comings, the club wants Erling Haaland to sign a new contract to try and make him untouchable.
Erling Haaland has been the main man in attack ever since his arrival in 2022. The Norwegian striker has scored 90 goals in 98 appearances across all competitions for City. Man City offered Haaland a five year contract in 2022 keeping him until 2027. However they want to update his contract to secure their future.
What do City want Haaland to sign a new contract
According to current contract, City have a hold on Norwegian striker until 2027. However there is another clause which has been activated from now. According to that any club other outside of England could buy Haaland if they pay £175 million as mentioned in release clause. The price mentioned will drop in each of his remaining three seasons. To prevent this from happening City are doing everything in their power to tie Haaland to new contract according to The Mirror.
City’s plan is to remove the buyout clause from Haaland’s contract. However to do so, both parties must be ready to agree. Haaland is reported to look for new challenges after some years after conquering everything possible in England. Previously before his move to City, many clubs were linked with Haaland. Real Madrid were one of the top targets to go after Norwegian striker and maybe seen again after a few years.
Haaland’s father on his son’s future
Alfie Haaland believes that his son won’t stay in England forever. This is because Haaland wants to prove his worth in all of the Europe’s top leagues. According to Alfie his son wants to dominate europe.
Alfie told that Haaland will want to stay in England for three to four years before looking for new opportunities. Haaland already achieved the success in Germany with Borussia Dortmund but was unable to win the Bundesliga title. However in future we could again see Haaland getting his hands on Bundesliga if he decides to move to Germany for his second spell. It would be interesting to see if Haaland agrees to sign a new contract in upcoming days.
Rodrygo rejects his move to City
Real Madrid star Rodrygo was linked with a move to City this season. Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe’s arrival has been followed by questions about Madrid’s possible front three next season. There are huge reports about Rodrygo missing his place as regular starter.
Madrid signing Mbappe also ends the possibility of the spanish giants going after Erling Haaland. Man City who are relieved to some extent were also linked to sign Rodrygo to solve their problems on left flank. Jack Grealish has been Guardiola’s regular choice but have been hugely inconsistent. Player like Rodrygo could easily replace Grealish and make City’s attack unstoppable. However the Brazilian international has shut down all the rumours of his move to England.
Rodrygo said that he has no intention of leaving Madrid and could stay with the club for all his career. The Brazilian also said that he will leave only if the club doesn’t need him but as per now he still has a contract and he is willing to continue. Rodrygo lifted his second Champions League trophy on saturday in Madrid’s victory over Dortmund.
