Manchester City are considering a move for ace Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong in return for Raheem Sterling, according to El Nacional. Frenkie is rated as one of the best midfielders in the world and his presence in midfield is beneficial to any team accross the world.

According to reports, Xavi wants players who can offer width and has the ability to dribble past defenders. While one such player who meets their demands is Raheem Sterling but City are not willing to let him go easily. However, the Citizens might let Sterling leave if a swap deal involving de Jong is offered to them.

Frenkie is one of the core players for Barcelona and the club would not like to see him go at any cost. Besides, he has the potential to be the best midfielder in the world in near future. Due to the lack of quality performances from Barcelona, he has not been able to make much of an impact this season. However, with the appointment of Xavi, he may want to offload some players from the club. But the signing of Frenkie won’t be that easy for the Citizens. While Manchester City will have to pay a hefty amount to secure the services of the Barcelona midfielder.

What Manchester City can get out of this Barcelona midfielder?

Frenkie was an important player of the remarkable 2018-19 Ajax squad. While he was leading the Ajax midfield, he caught the eyes of many elite clubs around the world. Barcelona succeeded to sign the Dutch midfielder for €75 million. His great game awareness with sharp decision-making was what made him so special. This was partnered with fantastic ability to dribble, acceleration, and balance along with excellent ball distribution.

There are certain speculations about Bernardo Silva leaving Manchester City. Silva has been vital for Guardiola’s side this season and if he leaves, Pep would want to replace him quickly. Frenkie’s playing style suits perfectly for Pep and his side, while his ability to control the midfield can add to City’s dominance.

However, a signing like de Jong does not sound very economical and can see City lose Sterling in the deal. Barcelona have been the admirers of Raheem Sterling for some time and this swap deal can make both parties happy. Pep has already expressed his admiration for Frenkie when he sighed for de Jong following his transfer to Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong also has the ability to cover the whole pitch. He would be an outstanding signing if Man City are able to pull this off. Although he has loads of talent, he can still learn a lot more under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. This deal can also help a financially struck Barcelona as a player of his quality can be sold very expensive. If the deal gets through, City would be nothing less than an unstoppable side. Although the talks are in the initial stages, the deal does make some sense for both parties and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it were to go through.
