Manchester City will have the upper hand against Real Madrid in race for Erling Haaland

As the current situation stands, Manchester City looks to be on the front foot in the contest to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland. While Real Madrid will also actively push for the player, a ‘no number 9’ situation at City will be more than appealing for the Norwegian.

The DFB Pokal winner with Dortmund, Haaland is currently one of the best young players. The striker has been ruling the Bundesliga alongside Bayern Munich‘s Robert Lewandowski for the last 2 seasons. The BVB talisman already has 23 goals and 6 assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this season, in spite of suffering from multiple injuries. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

His sheer dominance and attacking prowess have attracted all the football giants, including Man City and Real Madrid. However, the current positions of both clubs indicate that the Etihad is the most favorable destination for the 21-years-old forward.

How Man City can snatch Haaland from Madrid’s grasps

The Norway international’s rise to glory has never been hidden from the world. While many clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea have been in contention to sign the player, their pulling power is no match to that of Madrid’s or Man City’s.

Since the departure of Sergio Aguero to FC Barcelona, Pep Guardiola has struggled to find a perfect number 9 for his team. While the club have recently signed Julian Alvarez, the player is still no match to the likes of Haaland. If the Norwegian chooses to sign for City, he will no doubt be the team’s, main man. The player’s reputation and stats could even keep him out of the infamous ‘Pep Roulette’, as he will most likely be a regular starter.

On the other hand, the past few months indicate that the 21-years-old striker favours a move to Spain. However, the current situation in Madrid speaks a different story altogether. Karim Benzema is the undisputed star attacker at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman’s current performances make him unshakable from his position, while also being the club captain. Adding to it, Los Blancos’ top priority has always been Kylian Mbappe, who will be making a move to the capital in the summer as a free agent.

A financial setback to the club is also going to be a repelling factor in the days to come. Considering all factors, a move to the Premier League is more alluring than a move to La Liga. Therefore, the battle of the two giants in the summer will be extremely compelling, as both teams remain in doubt of acquiring the player’s signature.
