Sportsmole report that Manchester United have made a 55 million pound bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian is an exceptionally talented midfielder, and will not come cheap. United’s troubles in the middle of the park may force them to make significant additions, and Milinkovic-Savic should be a proper statement of intent.
Manchester United will see the departure of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard this season. Scott McTominay and Fred have not been up to the standard expected at Old Trafford. In this case, Milinkovic scored 11 goals and 12 assists this season and would be a welcome addition.
A creative maestro, Milinkovic-Savic can provide United attackers with a number of chances. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford can surely thrive with such a player.
Some burden will also be taken off the shoulders of Bruno Fernandes, as he has seen a dip in form as well. In addition, Milinkovic-Savic poses a threat from distance and set pieces as well.
Should The Red Devils Splash The Cash?
Lazio president Claudio Lotito maintains that their star midfielder is not for sale. A steep price will be demanded for sure in such a scenario. United will try to flex their financial muscle in the market, and a player like Milinkovic-Savic might just be worth the money.
United will face competition from Paris Saint-German and Real Madrid though. They may also have an additional advantage with the lure of Champions League football. United will certainly have to work very hard to secure the Serbian’s signature.
Manchester United have struggled in midfield in recent times. In the modern game, it is imperative to have control in the middle of the park, and this is a department where they have struggled. A player of Milinkovic’s quality can certainly help them reach that goal and be a key part of new manager Erik Ten Hag’s rebuild.
