Manchester United have added Monaco midfielder Tchouameni to their wishlist. The Red Devils are in the market for a defensive midfielder. Their long-term target Declan Rice is being valued at £100m by West Ham. Manchester United have identified Tchouameni as the ideal candidate.

Currently Manchester United have seven midfielders that can feature in the first team. Despite having some plan options none of them is a proper defensive midfielder who can sit deep and break down attacks except Nemanja Matic. Manchester United play a double pivot that features Fred and Scott McTominay sitting deep to protect the defenders. Eventually playing a double pivot means that they have limited numbers attacking in the opposition half. On the other hand, playing a specialist in that position will allow United to commit an extra player forward.

Tchouameni who signed from Bordeaux in January 2020. He had a brilliant 2020/21 campaign and is the ‘specialist’ United wants to bring to the club. Tchouameni was named Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Year last season.

His defensive attributes make him soo special. He attempted 127 tackles last season which is second-most in the League. Despite ticking all the boxes for United’s vacant position Red Devils will not be making a move this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will not make an offer for the youngster. Moreover, reports have been suggesting that United will not be making any more signings.

Manchester United’s priority at the moment is offloading players. The first player to leave United this summer is Andreas Pereira. Pereira joins Flamengo on a loan deal. Everton were willing to bring him to Goodison Park. But he believes that playing in their domestic league could benefit that ahead of Qatar 2022.

Manchester United withdrawing from the race for Tchouameni makes an easy win for their rivals

Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea are also willing to sign Tchouameni. After completing the signing of Romelu Lukaku, Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring in a new midfielder this summer. Given N’Golo Kante’s injury portfolio Chelsea are looking to add extra depth in the center of the park.
