Manchester United are reportedly prepared to walk away from signing Frenkie Jong. This is due to Barcelona refusing to lower their valuation for the midfielder.
MANCHESTER UNITED-FRENKIE JONG TRANSFER SAGA
The 25-year-old is believed to be Red Devils’ primary target this summer. There was one report claiming Erik Ten Hag has convinced the Dutch midfielder to move to Old Trafford. This is despite the club not competing in the Champions League next season. United football director John Murtoug has opened talks with Barcelona over a deal for De Jong. Although, their first bid of around £60m was rejected by Catalan giants.
MANCHESTER UNITED READY TO WALK AWAY FROM THE DEAL
According to local media reports, United will refuse to pay over the odds for the midfielder. The Red Devils are considering walking away from the deal. The deal will only be possible if Barca lowers their €100m (£85.7m) valuation. The report also adds that Ten Hag is willing to move on to other targets if they are unable to lure De Jong to Old Trafford. Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Philips has believed to be on their radar. This is despite strong links of Philips moving to their rival Manchester City. Although some reports suggest Kalvin Philips will reject a move to Manchester United. This is due to his popularity with the Leeds United fans.
Frenkie De Jong still has four years remaining on his contract at Camp Nou. He has recorded 13 goals and 17 assists in 139 appearances across all competitions. Although his overall playing style has been criticised by the Barca fans. Barcelona hierarchy are also unsure over his sale. This is because Barca Manager Xavi wants to keep him. It looks like Manchester United’s search for a midfielder will go on if Barca refuses to bring the price down.
