Mane’s departure right decision by Liverpool despite Merson’s criticism

Mane

Sadio Mane’s move to Bayern Munich in 2022 is looking like a right decision in hindsight for Liverpool.

Reds have proven right by selling Mane despite Merson’s staggering criticism that it was the “worst business ever”. The Senegalese Forward is struggling at Germany despite signing a deal worth £27.5m in 2022.

Bayern signed him after departure of star striker Robert Lewandowski, but Mane has failed to live upto his reputation. The 31-year-old had scored just seven goals so far this season.

However, recently Mane was involved in a altercation with his team-mate Leroy Sane in the dressing room. This led him to being suspended by the club and was hit with the biggest fine in Bayern’s history. A stagerring sum of £310,000 was charged as a penalty.

But many thought Liverpool have done a massive mistake with Mane still regularly topping the goal scoring charts for goals and assists.

Merson criticised the Mane’s move and termed it “worst business ever”

Paul Merson openly criticised the transfer and he told SkySports:-

“I’ve said it from day one, in my opinion selling Sadio Mane was the worst business ever. The bloke scores big, big goals. Go through them, first goals, equalisers, winning goals in last minutes, big goals.

“He led from the front with his closing down, and for me, what they sold him for, I just didn’t get it. Their problems at the back start from the front.

“They’re not closing down as a unit – you can go on about how talented that front three was, but they closed down from the front. It only took one more pass, and they’d score.”
