Mauricio Pochettino had a meeting with Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez

Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez met with Chelsea Manager, Mauricio Pochettino on Friday to discuss their early-season discipline issues. In the first five games of the season, the pair have received four and two yellow cards, respectively.

At the weekend match against Bournemouth, Jackson received his fourth caution of the season after the referee warned him for dissent. The Senegal international is now one caution away from a one-match suspension. This would leave Chelsea without many options for a central striker.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is anxious to prevent his star player from having to walk the tightrope like Jackson after Fernandez received two cautions in the early going this season. Due to this, the two players and the Argentine head coach met on Friday at Cobham.

Mauricio Pochettino stated

“Today we were talking about that because we were in a meeting with him [Jackson] and also Enzo. Come on, a striker with four yellow cards. To protest and to talk to the referee, if you need to get yellow cards, [do it in a] different action but not because of that.”

He further added

“It’s so easy and so cheap. I think it’s going to put the team in a very difficult situation and he understood. We were talking about [Armando] Broja, but Jackson is 21 (sic) also and he’s young, he needs to learn and improve and settle to become a fantastic player. He needs time.”

Mauricio Pochettino provided updates on the injured players

Pochettino has confirmed that Moises Caicedo will still need to be evaluated by the team before this weekend’s match against Aston Villa. The 21-year-old midfielder was forced to sit out last Sunday’s draw against Bournemouth due to a minor knee injury. He sustained the injury while representing Ecuador at an international level.

Marc Cucurella, Noni Madueke, Armando Broja, Benoit Badiashile, Reece James, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Trevoh Chalobah were among the other players on whom Pochettino provided updates. Mauricio Pochettino said

“We need to assess Moises tomorrow. He was training in a difficult way, not with the team, until today. We need to assess him tomorrow to see if he can be involved for Sunday.”

He continued saying

“Marc suffered a fever. He’s back and has started training. Noni was involved also in the week in training. Maybe for Armando on Sunday, but we’re not sure and we need to assess him tomorrow. We need to recover players and it’s important that many names and players can start to be available to be involved in the game.”

Mauricio Pochettino concluded by saying

“Yeah [a minor setback for Badiashile], but it was in a different muscle, a different thing. But it was minor, it was a small strain. Reece, Chukwuemeka and also Chalobah, they’re very close to training with the team.”
