In an interview, Thomas Tuchel made a suggestion that Michy Batshuayi might stay with the team for the upcoming campaign. The German got to witness the Belgian in person for the first time during the second half of the club’s 2-1 friendly victory over Club America over the weekend.
Batshuayi has not been able to cement a starting spot at Stamford Bridge for the longest. He spent a number of seasons out on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace and Besiktas.
Every summer it seems that the Belgian is on his way out, but a permanent transfer has never materialized. This summer though, things may be different. Tuchel may give the striker a chance to redeem himself.
What Tuchel Said Regarding Batshuayi
For all of them [a chance]. Malang and Trevoh did from more or less out of nothing, they earned a place in their squad and played a huge role in the season. Everyone has the chance now to show up. The big part is that the players that are now here, it’s a nice group of players. It’s an open group of players who make it easy for you to feel welcome and show your best level.
It’s not always like this, that’s what makes the group special. That’s why the youngsters and players like Michy Batshuayi, and everyone who is new in the group, they have a big, big chance.
Thomas Tuchel
Romelu Lukaku has left on loan, and Armando Broja is close to an exit. It may open up possibilities for more minutes for Batshuayi. The Blues lack a clinical number 9 up top, and Batshuayi and can perhaps be the answer to their problems.
It remains to be seen what Tuchel can do with Batshuayi. He is a talented player on his day, and will try to make the most out of this opportunity.
