Reports indicate that Mick Schumacher is now in talks with Haas F1 for a possible contract extension till 2023.

After months of speculation over the future of Mick Schumacher with Haas F1, reports now indicate that the duo is in talks for a possible contract extension till 2023.

Schumacher will run out of his current contract with the team at the end of this season.

The speculations around the future of Schumacher grew when team principal Guenther Steiner openly criticized the German. He publicly discussed alternative options indicating an uncertain future for Schumacher.

Nico Hulkenberg came on the front with a possible return to F1 with the team. Kevin Magnussen already has a contract with the team till 2023.

Daniel Ricciardo also came in the rumors when Guenther Steiner openly acknowledged talking to the Australian as a replacement for Schumacher. However, he doesn’t seem like a viable option at the moment. The 33-year-old was axed by McLaren is yet to find a seat for 2023.

Ricciardo is 5th highest-paid driver on the grid making it difficult for a team like Haas to afford him. Haas has the lowest-paid drivers on the grid.

Furthermore, coming to Mick Schumacher, the German’s performance has improved considerably compared to the start of the season.

So, it is believed now Haas is keeping its faith in Schumacher for the next season. Sky Germany indicates that talks have already started during the Singapore GP weekend.

If Haas does axe him, however, his alternatives are limited. With Alpine and Williams only, teams are officially left with vacant seats. Alpine seems to be going for Pierre Gasly while Williams is unlikely to hire Schumacher.

Mick Schumacher currently stands 16th in the championship standings.
