Mohamed Salah planning his future away from Liverpool as he rejects the Reds’ first renewal offer

Look away Liverpool fans. Mohamed Salah has rejected Liverpool’s first offer for a contract renewal. Although the Reds will definitely table another offer, this news has to raise alarms for Liverpool. Salah knows that many of Europe’s top clubs are after him, and is even ready to consider other offers. Liverpool are reportedly negotiating a new deal for the Egyptian since December, but Salah and his agent seem unimpressed. Salah’s current deal expires in 2023 and Liverpool are on their toes to extend it. The winger has been a crucial part of Klopp’s team and has won five major honors with the Merseyside club.

Since only 18 months remaining on his contract, top clubs across Europe are attentive towards Salah’s situation. According to multiple reports, Salah and his agent have conveyed their demands to Liverpool. However, Liverpool are said to be reluctant from giving into Salah’s demand, and hence the talks have stalled.

However, Jurgen Klopp has repeatedly stated that Salah is willing to sign a new deal. But there may not be a total agreement yet in what the manager says. Virgil van Dijk is currently the club’s highest earner and Salah has demanded a salary that would place him ahead of the Dutchman. But Liverpool are not willing to break their pay structure and go out of the way for Salah. However, the contract situation has unfetched Salah who has scored 28 goals and assisted 10 in 36 appearances in all competitions this season.

Salah contemplating options other than Liverpool

Mohamed Salah knows very well that top European clubs are after him. The winger has exploded for the Reds since signing for them in 2017. His stellar displays and outstanding stats for the Reds have attracted the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain. Salah is also reportedly keen on enduring a new adventure if an extension is not signed with Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah has so far made 239 appearances for Liverpool, amassing 153 goals and 57 assists. Salah won the Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and recently the League Cup with Liverpool. Moreover, the 29-year-old has become a huge fan favorite as well.

Van Dijk is now on a £250,000-a-week contract and Salah wants a whopping £400,000-a-week. Though the figure seems exaggerated, it would be justified if Salah is paid in that region. The Egyptian international despite outscoring many of the premier league stars is not even in the top-10 highest earners. However, if Salah’s demands are met, it would put him in the same bracket as Ronaldo and De Bruyne in terms of salary as well.

While Salah may have signaled other clubs that he would be willing to make a move, his price tag is still a big hurdle. Salah’s market value is £90 million, and it seems highly unlikely that any of Madrid, Barca, or PSG will shell out that much money. Liverpool too would not compromise on the fee if Salah makes up his mind on leaving in the summer. Coming months are crucial for both Salah and Liverpool given the contract talks as well as the Reds’ Premier League and Champions League title bid.
