Newcastle United to reunite with Aleksandar Mitrovic?

This can be an extremely unlikely and shocking transfer move. But Jose Enrique believes that Newcastle United might consider a transfer move for Aleksandar Mitrovic. This will be a reunion with the club and the player as Mitrovic previously played for The Magpies.

Very recently, the Serbian international bagged a record-breaking 43 goals in the Championship. Guy Whittingham previously held the record. He helped his side Fulham to earn a promotion to the Premier League in the first effort.

Former Newcastle United left back Jose Enrique revealed his admiration towards Mitrovic. According to him, Eddie Howe should ‘definitely’ target signing Mitrovic in the transfer window to bolster their attack. Speaking to bettingexpert, Enrique said:

“For me, I love him (Aleksandar Mitrovic). I always loved this player. Even before he did his numbers in the Championship.”

“I love players with character and energy. He’s a kind of a striker that fights anybody, he doesn’t care.”

He further continued:

“He’s a typical Number 9 that wants to score and score more goals. I love the fighting spirit that he has. He’s always a player I loved. I’m not saying this because of the numbers he did in the Championship last season that was actually a record. He could definitely be a target for Newcastle. I really, really like him.”

Mitrovic’s record at Newcastle United and Fulham

Mitrovic joined Newcastle United from the Begian club Anderlecht in 2015. He managed to score only 17 goals in 72 games for the Magpies and then loaned out to Fulham. The reason of loan was falling out with his former boss Rafa Benitez.

The Craven Cottage outfit bought him permanently for £22 million after he scored 12 times for them in half season. He also played a key part for them winning promotion via the Championship playoffs. In the last four league campaigns, the West London club has been relegated twice and promoted twice too. Now again gaining promotion, Mitrovic will look to better his Pl goal tally which stands at 14 in 64 games.
