Nicolas Otamendi says he would love Manchester City star to play for Benfica

Former Manchester City icon Nicolas Otamendi has made a wish to play alongside City star at Benfica. Otamendi wishes Bernardo Silva to pen down a contract with Benfica some day. The Argentine claims that if the treble-winner returns to the Portuguese side, he will get a positive reception from the fans. Moreover, Silva also claimed last year that he would love to return to his former club. The Portuguese international is a prodigy of Benfica academy winning the Portuguese League with them in 2014 as well. However in 2014/15 season he went on loan to Monaco thereafter signing for them permanently. The World Cup winner says that,

“Bernardo [Silva] shared a dressing room with me at Manchester City. He’s a great person, as well as a great player. It’s clear to see that he’s a footballer of another dimension. I had the chance to be in the same team as him. He’s a very simple person, very quiet and a lot of fun.

Any player who is a fan of the club, and who is as big as Bernardo, it’s always good to share the pitch with him. They’re players who play very good football and who love a club that has given them so much in terms of sport. If he comes back one day, let him come because he’ll be well received.”

Manchester City should start searching for a successor to Bernardo Silva anyways. The treble winner’s future is currently uncertain regarding his future. His contract has a release clause of £50m which he renewed back in August last year. This clause can be triggered during the next summer window and many top European giants will love to secure him. Although, is contract will be expiring in 2026 and if the player wishes he can continue to be at Etihad for a longer duration.
