Nwankwo Kanu says former Arsenal legend is the best player he ever shared the field with

Arsenal

Former Arsenal star Nwankwo Kanu claims that Patrick Vieira is the best player he ever played with. Kanu had a very decorative career for Arsenal under Arsene Wenger at Highbury. The Nigerian striker was a three time FA Cup winner. Moreover, he was also a Premier League champion twice. Besides Arsenal, the striker also played for Ajax and Inter Milan too. He played alongside many of Arsenal’s greats in his 197 games for the club. However, he chose Patrick Vieira as the best of the lot.

Speaking to Sky Sports Q&A, the African was asked about the best player he played with. In reply to this he said,

Patrick Vieira, he works very hard for the team, but at the same time people don’t understand he’s the player that gives me all the balls. Anywhere I go, he knows what I can do, within a second he sees you, he just gives you the ball.

No matter where you are he keeps supplying the ball to you, and as a striker you need the ball to perform – if you don’t have the ball, how can you perform?

Kanu’s 44 goals in his 197 appearances may appear slightly modest, but he offered so much to Wenger’s teams. Perhaps, Havertz can follow the similar path if given more chances. The German will also enjoy playing alongside a midfielder of Patrick’s quality. Though, the current squad possess players of such quality. The only problem is that those men are not looking much confident. The Gunners are expected to make a signing for another English league midfielder. Talks for Everton’s Amadou Onana seem to be progressing, and the player is very keen to join Arsenal.
