Stuart Pearce gives his verdict on the ongoing saga between Arsenal and Ivan Toney. Stuart believes that Toney will be a great recruitment for Arsenal. Moreover, the Gunners are also in a long pursuit for the striker. It is also reported that Mikel Arteta personally wants to bring the striker to the Emirates stadium. There is speculation that Brentford could ask for as much as £80 million for Toney, who is about to make a comeback after serving his ban. The striker reportedly wants £200,000 per week as salary to sign for any club this month.

“I have seen Arsenal a few times as of the last month, and there has been speculation about Arsenal being interested in him. Prior to that I thought that Toney owes Brentford because he has been away for a long period of time, but the more I watch Arsenal, the more I think Arsenal are so desperate for a centre-forward that has got character and charisma, and I think this kid has.”

The former Newcastle man also believes that he has got arrogance as a centre-forward and could be everything they want. Toney has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The striker has scored 32 goals and given nine assists in those games. The options available for Arsenal for the strike positions are disappointing so far this season. They were also linked with Borja Mayoral. It is reported that a bid of £22m is turned down by his club recently. Though on the links, Mayoral said,

“It’s news that has surprised me too. I haven’t spoken to the club or my agent. I’m very focused on Getafe on a day-to-day basis.”
