Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club is one of the most prestigious and well run clubs in the Premier League. Consequently, it is the only club to have broken the consecutive premier league winning run of Manchester City since 2016 in 2019-20 season. Recently, former English player, Paul Merson commented on Liverpool for their commendable acquisition of talent. Since, Liverpool went on a personnel overhaul in the summer, due to an aging squad and gaps in important positions.

Paul Merson liberating Liverpool gems

Paul Merson, a prolific pundit and writer has spoken highly of Liverpool and its recruits. Since the acqusition of Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool’s midfield looks better. The addition of a high intensity and creative number 8 has improved their build up as well as their counter-pressing. He has shown an elite mentality, by giving excellent performances in each match. Accordingly, he fits the description for the signing of the season as Liverpool fans and Paul agree. However, according to Paul there has been another signing that is going under the radar. In light of the midfield overhaul, a certain world champion was signed by Liverpool. Although, Alexis Mac Allister did not look a world-beater at the beginning of his tenure. However to Liverpool Fans immense relief the bad performances were not an indication of the future.

Paul prefers ‘Pivots’

Paul believes Szoboszlai has performed at a very high level, thus endearing him to the fans. However, his charisma has somewhat eclipsed the constant dominant displays from Mac Allister. Paul says that,” He’s playing as a No. 6 which isn’t really his usual position, but Liverpool are winning games right now.” Thus, Mac Allister has been performing well for Liverpool even after playing out of position. Seemingly, Mac Allister has become an important utility player for Klopp. The manager relies on him in clutch moments. Overall, Liverpool have developed a solid midfield foundation with youngsters and experienced players alike.
