According to El Nacional, Pep Guardiola has informed Manchester City to grab an opportunity to sign Federico Valverde from Real Madrid. The report says that the player is disappointed with the lack of game time but is however happy in Spain. Moreover, Guardiola is an admirer of the Uruguayan international and wants him to be a part of Manchester City.

Valverde has started only one game in the last nine games for Real Madrid in all competitions. Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that he likes the midfield trio of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Casemiro. Moreover, it will be difficult for any midfielder to start over these three. Therefore, Valverde’s disappointment and Ancelotti’s preference are understandable.

However, Valverde has to get some game time to develop as a player and also develop his career. He was a key part of Zidane’s last season at Madrid. He did a great job as a backup midfielder and looked set to start more games this season. However, that is not the case this season as Ancelotti seems to have found his perfect system which does not include Valverde.

Pep has monitored this situation and has requested City to sign Valverde if there is availability. There might be or might not be some midfielders leaving Manchester City at the end of the season. However, City has to be prepared for all situations and Valverde can be a good option to take place of one midfielder. Guardiola thinks that his physicality can suit Premier League’s intensity.

What can Federico Valverde offer Manchester City?

Valverde is not the kind of player who can pull off 5-star skills and get away from defenders. However, his greatest strength is his versatility, and can play in more than one position in the midfield. He can also play in the 4-3-3 system and also play as a wide midfielder in the 4-4-2 formation. He has done this job several times and can replicate that at Manchester City.

Moreover, he is a tactically intelligent player and also contributes a lot to the defense. He can be disciplined and do what is asked by the coach even when playing as a number 10. This makes it difficult for opponent midfielders to get control of the game. He also takes good positions to receive the ball and can deny the press with few risky passes.

Valverde does fill the job profile for Manchester City and can adapt to Premier League intensity as Pep understands. Moreover, Pep can have some better plans for the youngsters which can help him thrive going forward. He can be a great option as a depth player and Guardiola has a reputation of rotating his squad often.

Even if Valverde will be a good signing for Pep, he can be expensive for City. He has a contract with Madrid till June 2027 and has a €1 billion release clause. However, if the player is willing to leave the club then the clubs might look for a solution. Moreover, Valverde can also chose to fight for his place at Real Madrid if he thinks that he can gain the trust of his manager.
