Pochettino confirms every position Chelsea needs to reinforce

Pochettino

During the press conference scheduled ahead of the game against Luton, Pochettino received several questions surrounding future transfers. Surprisingly, the Chelsea manager gave very clear answers that, while not anything new, confirm recent speculations around each position.

Despite the conference being about the upcoming match, most knew questions regarding future transfers would enter the discussion. After all, Pochettino has confirmed at least two more transfers will occur. But with days before the transfer window closes, many wonder what are the manager’s plans.

Pochettino made it clear that it is impossible to give concrete answers while the transfer window is still open. However, he did clarify some points of interest.

Chelsea : the first position

A notable question during the conference regarded the positions that require the most focus.

“We need at least one keeper. We have very talented young keepers but they need time.” Stated Mauricio Pochettino at the Blues conference.

This particular comment was clearly hinting at the future addition of the Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. While not the most enlightening, the statement does guarantee the player’s future signing. Furthermore, Petrovic may be the only goalkeeper signed this window.

With over a third of his games being a clean sheet, this single addition may in fact suffice.

the second position

“We were talking about one offensive player, the right profile.” Added Pochettino to his previous comment.

The comment is obscure at best, but considering the recent event, there may be implications.

Specifically, the statement may be referring to the young striker Folarin Balogun. Chelsea was at a stalemate with Monaco recently, as both teems need a front position replacement due to injury. While each club has made advancements, there are no evidence of either club faring better than the other.

But with 27 goals scored the 37 games participated, Balogun does seem to fit “the right profile”. But similar to most Pochettino’s comments, the matter is still unclear.
