Rayan Alt-Nouri An Option For Pep Guardiola

Manchester City have identified Rayan Alt-Nouri as one of the left-backs they would like to sign this summer. Joao Cancelo has been a star in the last couple of seasons in that position. Although he is a traditional right-back, he plays in an inverted role on the flank, often tucking into midfield. His spectacular passing range shines from deep, and his long-range shooting remains a threat too.

Oleksandr Zinchencko plays a similar role, but he is supposedly frustrated with his limited game time. Former City assistant manager Mikel Arteta is trying to sign him for Arsenal reportedly. Benjamin Mendy is still embroiled in legal troubles and is unlikely to feature at Manchester City again. This leaves Cancelo as the only sure left-back next season.

Pep Guardiola will be looking for someone who can be a backup and provide genuine competition to Cancelo. Marc Cucurella is a name that has been touted, but The Athletic claim Rayan Alt-Nouri is also on the radar.

Rayan Alt-Nouri: What Does He Offer

Alt-Nouri has been a revelation for Wolverhampton. The 21-year-old is explosive and is an extremely good dribbler. The French sensation played 23 games for Bruno Lage’s team, bagging a goal and two assists. He also played a major role in Wolves securing the fifth least amount of goals in the Premier League.

Initially signed on loan from French club Angers in 2020, Wolves signed the youngster on a permanent basis next year. Alt-Nouri is known for his smart runs. He does not prefer an underlapped or an overlapped run, and this tactical flexibility will be of interest to Guardiola.

The purchase of Alt-Nouri can be a smart move by the Cityzens. Alt-Nouri has shown an exceptional amount of talent at a very young age, which can promise them about 5 to 6 seasons of quality. However, Wolves will obviously be hesitant to sell such a prized asset. Alt-Nouri has four more years on his current contract, which will make any potential move very expensive.
