Real Madrid monitoring Liverpool’s Joe Gomez situation: Good move for Los Blancos?

According to several reports, Real Madrid are monitoring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez’s situation ahead of making a potential move next summer.

Joe Gomez has struggled for game time this term. The England international has made just 9 appearances in all competitions this season, playing played just 336 minutes. This includes just 12 minutes of action in the Premier League. (stats via Tranfermarkt)

In the last term, Joe Gomez was on the sidelines for the majority of the season due to a serious knee injury. This season he has fallen back in the pecking order behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip. The Elish centre-half has also seen summer singing Ibrahima Konate rise above him in the backline pecking order.

Reports coming out of Anfield also suggest that Joe Gomez may look for a loan move away from the club in the January transfer window in search of regular playtime. The English centre-half is also keen to win his place in the England national team ahead of the World Cup in 2022.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously insisted that the Reds have no intention of letting the centre-half walk away from the club. But reports suggest that the Spanish giants are interested in testing Liverpool’s resolve next summer.

Good move for Joe Gomez and Real Madrid?

Real Madrid lost their star centre half pairing this summer. Club captain Sergio Ramos left on a free transfer to PSG. While Manchester United penned down a deal with Raphael Varane. However, the club did manage to sign Austrian centre half David Alaba on a free transfer for reinforcing their backline.

Real Madrid will be hoping to sign Joe Gomez next summer and play him alongside Alaba in the heart of the defence. Gomez would slot perfectly into the Madrid defence alongside Alaba and they can form a rock-solid partnership at the back.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is keen to rebuild the squad and add new faces to the starting line-up next term. Kylian Mbappe and Erling Braut Haaland are on top of the Madrid wishlist. Los Blancos also have Antonio Rudiger, Jules Kounde, Pau Torres and Matthijs de Ligt on their centre-half shortlist aslonside Joe Gomez.
