Micah Richards finds it hard to believe how effective Diogo Jota is scoring goals for Liverpool.
This week, Jota returned from injury and wasted little time getting back to where he had been. Even though he was only on the field for a short while on Tuesday against Burnley, he managed to score. The 27-year-old has had a really successful season thus far, and this was his ninth strikeout.
Furthermore, Richards acknowledged in an interview with The Rest Is Football podcast that Jota s ability to score goals off the bench is “getting ridiculous.”
“Liverpool create so much,” said the pundit, when asked how the Reds will cope without Mohamed Salah while he’s away at AFCON next month.
“The likes of Jota. Jota just comes on and scores every time now. It’s getting ridiculous! He’s become the new Solskjaer.”
Jota prepared to fill Salah’s void
Jota s return could not have come at a better time for Liverpool. Salah is set to depart for a short while, so the Reds’ forward line has been lacking in scoring goals lately.
On Tuesday, Darwin Nunez broke his own drought, and he will feel much better as a result. However, it is reasonable to wonder where the goals will come from in Salah’s absence.
Despite not being in Liverpool’s starting lineup at the beginning of the season, the Portugal international is unquestionably in it now.
Jota s past fitness issues make Jurgen Klopp cautious about over-playing him. However, given how difficult it is for Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo to consistently find the net, the manager might not have much of an option. Jota has frequently been overshadowed by bigger names in the forward line during his time at Liverpool.
Now that Salah will be absent for a short while, though, is Diogo’s chance to really establish himself. Micah, get ready for even more shock value because our No. 20 is just getting warmed up.
