Robin van Persie’s past comments on Cody Gakpo resurface again

Gakpo

Liverpool are close to signing Cody Gakpo this January transfer window. Liverpool have beaten Manchester United in securing the service of Cody Gakpo. This signing have opened up many exciting possibilities for Jurgen Klopp. Last January the Reds signed Luiz Diaz, who helped the club to win two domestic cups. Liverpool even reached the Champions League finals last season. The Reds are now closing in on a similar price deal for Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. The initial fee is said to be £37m, with ad-ons it is expected to be a round total of £40m. Furthermore, the player will soon travel to UK for a medical with Liverpool.

Cody Gakpo is seen as a versatile player by Robin van Persie

Cody Gakpo has made most of his starts on the left side of the attack this season. Moreover, his outputs on the wings have been outright impressive. He has 6 goals and 9 assists to his name from the 12 starts he made in the wide attacking midfield area. Furthermore, he even has 6 goals and 5 assists in seven games he started in an advanced role. Dutch legend Robin van Persie had commented on the player earlier this season. He said,

“[Gakpo] is a good player. He always finds a way in most games to have an influence, in terms of making an assist or a goal, he’s always dangerous. He is not really an out-and-out striker. He can play as a No.10, he can play on the wing, or as a false striker, he can play in those four positions in front.”

Van Persie further said,

“He has a good physique, he is strong, fast, he can dribble. He is an all-round player.”

Furthermore in the Qatar World Cup Cody Gakpo performed amazingly well for the Dutch national team. Although he was mostly occupying the central role as a forward number two or in a number 10 role from behind. He was even the first Dutch player to a goal in all three group-stage matches in a World Cup. With a versatile player such as Gakpo, Klopp would have plenty to take a look at in the training grounds.
